Make History....Run the Swedish Stomp!
Saturday April 22, 2017

Enjoy a 5k run/walk through history in this charming 19th century village. Descendants of the original settlers welcome you to the 22nd Annual Bishop Hill Swedish Stomp & Skamparoo. A unique handcarved wooden boot goes to the overall winner in both the male and female categories. Post race refreshments include a Swedish feast of homemade muffins and sweets, hard tack, cheese, pickled herring and fresh fruit. The Bishop Hill Old Settler's Association organizes the Stomp with proceeds going to help restore and maintain the 1861 Colony School and grounds.
Bishop Hill is a National Landmark Village, listed in the National Register of Historic Places and an Illinois State Historic Site. Founded in 1846 by Swedish immigrants, who created a new life for themselves in this lovely Illinois location. Plan to linger after the race to enjoy the many museums, shops, galleries and restaurants in this picturesque town. Or arrive Friday and after dinner at The Filling Station spend the night at either Twinflower Inn B&B or The Gallery Inn.
